On July 8, communities across Ohio will gather to publicly read the Declaration of Independence together — honoring the first public reading of the document in 1776 and celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
On July 8, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was publicly read aloud for the first time.
250 years later, Ohio communities are invited to recreate that moment through public readings hosted in libraries, museums, parks, town squares, schools, and community gathering spaces across the state, alongside hundreds of readings happening simultaneously across the country.
These events are designed to be simple, welcoming, and community-led—bringing neighbors together to reflect on the ideals, voices, and history that shaped our nation.
