Celebrating America’s Birthday “Ohio-Style” at the Fair! 🎡
Ohio took center stage at the 2026 Ohio State Fair with an unforgettable celebration of our state’s 250-year legacy. Highlights included a historic Time Capsule Dedication (set to be opened in 50 years!), a daily Birthday Party for America (at 2:50 PM) at the America 250-Ohio booth, and the popular Ohio’s Homecoming & Picnic at the nearby Ohio Village. Fairgoers of all ages explored patriotic exhibits, family-friendly contests, special giveaways, and immersive history showcases—proving nobody celebrates America’s story quite like the Buckeye State!

50 Year Club Time Capsule Dedication ⏳
In a special ceremony with the 50 Year Club, we officially dedicated an America 250-Ohio time capsule to be sealed in the new Ohio Showcase Building at the fairgrounds. Filled with items representing today’s Buckeye State, it was sealed to be opened by future generations in another 50 years!
The special ceremony included remarks by Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady DeWine, Ohio History Connection’s Megan Wood, and Co-Chair of the America 250-Ohio commission, Doug Preisse.
America 250-Ohio Booth & Birthday Party for America 🎂🎨
Our interactive booth was buzzing all week long! Families stopped by the Lausche Youth Exploration Building for daily “Birthday Party” celebrations, fun photo ops, patriotic giveaways, and hands-on crafts where kids created their own history-inspired keepsakes.
Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Park Partnership 
We partnered with ODNR Park to highlight Ohio’s rich natural history, native wildlife, and state parks. Fairgoers enjoyed conservation activities, scenic spots, and learned how Ohio’s outdoors have shaped our nation.
Chairwoman of the America 250-Ohio Signature Events Committee Melinda Huntley also received a special Cardinal Award for championing the connection between tourism and Ohio’s great outdoors in her work with the Ohio Travel Association.
Ribbon Cutting & The New Ohio Showcase Building 🏛️
Fairgoers got an inside look at the brand-new Ohio Showcase Building, a state-of-the-art space with an upstairs installation highlighting the past, present, and future of Ohio’s leading industries, arts, and innovations.
The Famous Butter Cow & America 250-Ohio Butter Logo 
It wouldn’t be the fair without a stop at the Dairy Barn! Sculptors outdid themselves this year, featuring the official America 250-Ohio logo sculpted entirely out of butter right alongside the iconic butter cow family, complete with flags, a bald eagle, and a statue of liberty.
Ohio Village First Look Picnic 🧺
Guests enjoyed an exclusive first look and community picnic at the nearby Ohio Village, stepping back in time to experience 19th-century life with costumed interpreters, historic games, and great food. Picnic goers went to the Grove to get a first look during the fair of the newly renovated Ohio Village, set to reopen in 2027. The picnic was one of hundreds of Ohio’s Homecoming & Picnic events held across the state this summer!
The Freedom Truck and Ferris Wheel 
The rolling, interactive Freedom Truck exhibit brought American history right to the midway, engaging visitors with mobile displays and stories about the American Revolution. Fair goers also got a unique look from the top of the Great American State Fair’s Ferris Wheel during its turn in Ohio.
The America 250-Ohio “Birthday Cake” Deviled Egg Flight 
The fair food scene reached strange and delicious new heights with a festive twist on a classic snack—a sweet-and-savory deviled egg flight created especially for the 250th celebration! Complete with 6 flavors to celebrate all things American: hotdog, mac & cheese, ranch, barbeque, apple pie, and a birthday cake flavor for America’s 250th!
