Spirit of ’76 (250)
The community event will take place at Medina’s Old Town Graveyard, where we will “honor our past where patriots rest.” The day will begin at 10:00 A.M. with a military honor guard and a wreath-laying ceremony at the graves of our three Revolutionary patriots.
Scheduled appearances throughout the morning and afternoon include George and Martha Washington, Paul Revere, Betsy Ross, Mollie Pitcher, Jim Smith (George Washington’s bodyguard), Revolutionary War Captain Harmon Munson and his wife, as well as other early Medina County residents buried at Old Town, such as Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Ferris and Austin Badger.
The Early American singing group, Maidens Kiss, will perform, and there will be a fiddler and dulcimer player, providing entertainment throughout the day. Early American-period artisans will be present, and there will also be activities for kids and more.
Festivities will conclude at 3:00 P.M. The event will be held rain or shine and is free and open to the public. It is wheelchair, stroller, and wagon-friendly.
Then, at 4 PM, the Spirit of ’76 and Revolutionary War reenactors will lead the annual Fourth of July Parade. Floats, historic vehicles, and more, all decked out in their red, white, and blue finest! Later, set up your lawn chair in Uptown Park to enjoy a special concert of patriotic music, courtesy of the Medina Community Band, now in their 167th year! Take a step back in time and celebrate America’s 250th birthday with us!
