Songs at the Center Celebrates with America 250-Ohio!

Mark your calendars for Monday, September 28 starting at 12:30 PM for Songs at the Center’s next season 13 show recordings at the Murphy Theater, 50 W Main St, Wilmington, Ohio, 45177.

We celebrate Ohio’s contribution to the music of our nation, with songwriters who share their stories and songs. We’ll be recording two episodes of “Songs at the Center”, a 30-minute TV show airing across the country on public broadcasting stations. Show host Eric Gnezda explores how Ohio roots have contributed to the development and the style of the artists’ songs.

Presented with the America 250-Ohio Commission, the two show recordings will feature six singer-songwriters, including Cincinnati resident Alice Peacock, who has written music for numerous TV shows (Dawson’s Creek, Smallville, What I Like About You, The Ghost Whisperer) and films (Because of Winn Dixie, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!).

A former trustee and board member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (which oversees the GRAMMYS), Alice has advocated for artists’ rights, testifying with Lyle Lovett before the Senate Judiciary Committee on their behalf.

Guests will also include:

  • Ohio’s Josh Krajcik, a finalist on TV’s competition show, The X-Factor. Josh has also opened for Brandi Carlile, The Fray, and Corine Bailey Rae.
  • Author, singer-songwriter-fiddler and TV star Jessica Willis Fisher, who’s been a favorite at the Grand Ole Opry, and wrote the acclaimed memoir, Unspeakable: Surviving My Childhood and Finding My Voice.
  • Ben Mulwana who was born in Uganda, and writes songs about love, loss, and everything in between.
  • Lydia Loveless, an American alternative country singer-songwriter from Columbus, Ohio.
  • Bronson Arroyo, a gifted musician and former professional baseball pitcher. He is best known for his time playing with the Cincinnati Reds.
  • More artists to be announced!

Audiences are invited to join us for both our recordings, at 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM. There are two rounds of songwriters. The taping is free! No cost to attend – this is a live to tape recording so we may stop and start. We welcome all to come free of charge to see a TV show being made.
