Fibers of Appalachia

Guests can expect an exhibition celebrating the enduring role of fiber traditions in Appalachian life and culture. Fibers of Appalachia presents traditional and contemporary works in quilting, weaving, basketry, broom-making, embroidery, garments, cordage, lace, paper, and other fiber practices. The exhibition highlights how generations of makers transformed local materials and practical needs into forms of artistic expression rooted in resourcefulness, community, and cultural identity. By presenting both inherited pieces and innovative contemporary work, the exhibition reflects the broader American story of adaptation, creativity, and resilience. In recognizing these living traditions, Fibers of Appalachia celebrates the cultural contributions of Appalachian communities as part of the nation’s 250-year history.
