Granville’s first Independence Day celebration was in 1806, the first July 4th following the arrival of the settlers from Massachusetts and Connecticut. The first known community Fourth of July celebration that vaguely resembled the big festival held today was in 1892, the highlight of which was the “pyrotechnics” display in the evening. The Kiwanis Club of Granville has been sponsoring the Granville 4th of July Celebration and parade since 1964.
This Signature program is also part of the AM250-OH Granville’s Historical Adventure Pass Booklet Challenge Program which rewards the first 250 people to attend & complete 6 of the Monthly Challenges Questions between January 2026 – December 2026 with an America250-Ohio historical commemorative keepsake. The Challenge Question & Answer flyer for this month will be posted on the Community Board by Village Hall & Butterfly Park on Broadway. This event is Free and Open to the Public. For all ages. ADA accessible.”
