America 250-Ohio & Granville (Art Celebration)

The Granville Public Library has been a part of the Granville community since the New England settlers first came in 1805. In that sense, a library has existed in Granville for almost as long as America has been a country. Historical Fact of art in Granville History: Thomas D. Jones migrated to the Welsh Hills northeast of Granville in 1837. In addition to being a Civil War soldier, he was known for his sculptures. His sculpture of President Lincoln in 1861 was displayed in the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda. He also has a marble monument depicting the surrender of Vicksburg, requested by Gov Rutherford B. Hayes, in the Statehouse Rotunda which was unveiled in 1871. (Granville Hist. Society Pocket History Book- The Civil War & Granville by B. Kevin Bennett) This Signature program is also part of the AM250-OH Granville’s Historical Adventure Pass Booklet Challenge Program which rewards the first 250 people to attend & complete 6 of the Monthly Challenges Questions between January 2026 – December 2026 with an America250-Ohio historical commemorative keepsake.
