The Future of the Common Good

Future Ohio invites a cross-sector group into a creative conversation around a founding-era question made
urgent again: what holds a community together, and who gets to build it?

Featuring Peter Block and Derek Peebles and drawing on the Common Good Alliance’s NEWW Street
framework, The Future of the Common Good workshop treats economic development as a civic act, the work
of neighbors associating to create shared wealth, local ownership, and belonging rather than waiting on
outside solutions. Participants will learn accelerated ways to build connection and focus on the gifts present
among them and how connections can be a basis for innovative ways to create community wealth and well-
being. The goal is connection itself: to leave with a shared language for community-rooted development and
the new ties that let future civic life renew from the ground up. The net result is to discover how citizens have
an important role in making democracy work.
