Rickey at The Vern Riffe Center for the Arts
Experience “Rickey: The Life and Amazing Times of Southern Ohio’s Own Branch Rickey,” a compelling one-act play about the baseball executive who changed the game and American life through his historic partnership with Jackie Robinson.
Written by Jerry Holt and directed by and starring Geoffrey Nelson, “Rickey” finds Branch in a mood of reminiscence, causing him to vividly recreate for the audience a time when, despite prejudice from fans and players alike, the game of baseball was the catalyst for America to come together.
The October 23 performance falls on the 81st anniversary of Robinson’s first contract signing with Rickey in 1945, the agreement that began the process of integrating Major League Baseball.
Presented by the Shawnee State University Center for Public History, this program is funded in part by the America250-Ohio Commission. The event is free to the public.
