‘Call to Duty Salute’ Ceremony-West

America has been in a number of military conflicts throughout its 250-year history, though not all conflicts were declared a war. Through a grant from the America-250 Ohio Commission, the Ottawa County-America 250 Committee created a trail of markers at 34 cemeteries in the County. The trail honors the final resting places of those who answered the Call to Duty by serving in the armed services. Notable veterans at the cemetery include John Green (American Revolution) and Howard Leo Hasselkus (World War II Bataan Death March, interred August 2025). The ceremony will introduce the trail, pay tribute to all veterans, and provide “learn more” information at the Ottawa County Historical Society website, Trails page.
