Washington’s Generals Lecture Series – Daniel Morgan: The Rebel With a Cause
The Garst Museum is pleased to announce the second lecture in Washington’s Generals, a year-long lecture series celebrating 250 years of American independence by exploring the key leaders who helped George Washington win the Revolutionary War.
“Daniel Morgan: The Rebel With a Cause” will premiere on Saturday, March 14, at 2:00 PM in the Lowell Thomas Meeting Room at the Garst Museum. The program will be presented by Administrative Director Cait Clark, who will also deliver the remaining lectures in the series throughout the year.
The man known as Daniel Morgan appeared seemingly out of nowhere in Winchester, Virginia. He was seventeen-years-old, couldn’t read, and got a job pulling up stumps. He was a brawler, a fighter, someone whose life seemed to punish him at every turn. In fact, one of Morgan’s favorite past times was fistfighting with William Darke, the future namesake of our very own Darke County!
Despite his trials, it was Morgan who other generals turned to when things got tough. From Benedict Arnold to Nathanael Greene to George Washington himself, Morgan would prove again and again to be an invaluable asset during the American Revolution. Join us at the Garst Museum for an engaging, accessible presentation that connects national history to local identity.
