Celebrating America’s First Interstate Highway – The National Road
America250’s April theme is Transportation. In keeping with that, it is appropriate for us to look at what has been called “America’s First Interstate” — the National Road, which was built through the middle of Clark County following what is now U.S. 40.
Wes Baker, will provide an overview of the history of the Road with a special focus on the Clark County route, how Springfield became known as “The Town at the End of the Pike,” and stories of largely forgotten sites along the way.
