New America 250-Ohio Barn in Sandusky, Ohio

America 250-Ohio Joins Sandusky County Historic Barn Mural Trail: A Journey Through Art and History.

In the heart of Ohio, Sandusky County boasts a unique attraction that combines rural charm, artistic expression, and historical preservation. The Sandusky County Historic Barn Mural Trail, initiated by the Sandusky County Visitors Bureau in 2015, has become a beloved feature of the area. This trail features a series of murals painted by Scott Hagan, famously known as “The Barn Artist.” Each mural adorns the side of a historic barn, transforming these rustic structures into vibrant canvases that tell the stories of the county’s rich heritage.

The Vision Behind the Trail

The idea for the Barn Mural Trail emerged as a creative way to celebrate and preserve the agricultural history of Sandusky County. By collaborating with Scott Hagan, the Sandusky County Visitors Bureau aimed to create a trail that would attract visitors and locals alike, offering a unique way to experience the region’s history and scenic beauty.

Scott Hagan, renowned for his ability to transform barns into works of art, was the perfect choice for this project. His murals are known for their intricate detail and historical accuracy, making each barn a storytelling masterpiece. The trail began with a series of murals that depicted significant events, people, and symbols associated with Sandusky County’s past.

The Latest Addition: Commemorating America 250-Ohio

Recently, the America 250 Ohio-Commission announced they were seeking locations across Ohio to paint barns to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. The Sandusky County Visitors Bureau reached out and shared with the America 250-Ohio Commission’s Executive Director, Todd Kleismit our existing barn mural trail painted by Scott Hagan and that we had the perfect location, a beautiful old barn owned by David and Ingrid Miarer that is located at 3888 West State Street (US20) just west of Fremont. The Commission evaluated and ultimately approved and paid for the mural and hired Scott to paint this beautiful barn.

This new mural features the bold red, white and blue logo America 250 Logo and a farm scene showing cows, a pig and a rooster crowing from a fence row as the yellow sun rises in the background. The mural is a powerful tribute to America’s 250-year journey and Sandusky County’s rich agricultural heritage.
