SUMMARY:Native American History Canoe Paddle
DESCRIPTION:The Maumee River is a primary life source to communities of the present and past. Join Wood County Parks staff with a special co-leader, community and communications specialist and Cherokee Nation member Jessie Walton-Summers, on this paddle around the islands. We’ll share the river’s significance to Native Americans who thrived in the area for generations and recall stories of peace and conflict. Significant landmarks and wildlife will be highlighted as we make our way down the Maumee River. In remembrance of the 250th birthday of the United States, this program series showcases the history of Wood County and as well as boosting the community spirit through outdoor activities and events! See online description for complete details. Paddle is 5 total river miles. A short canoe skills session will precede the trip. All canoes, paddles, and PFDs included. Must be 11 to paddle in the front seat; 6 to ride in the center; please contact the program leader for center riders or other special accommodations. Only 2-paddler canoes provided; register with a companion or one will be assigned to you at the program. All participants must abide by Essential Eligibility Criteria and sign a Release of Liability.\n
