SUMMARY:Highland County’s America 250 Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Highland County is proud to invite residents and visitors to join in a special America 250 celebration honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States in Highland County on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18, 2026. This meaningful community event will bring history to life through engaging presentations, courthouse tours, community activities, and patriotic entertainment across Highland County. \nThe celebration’s central event will take place on the historic Highland County Courthouse Square in Hillsboro, Ohio, where guests can experience the rich heritage that defines Highland County. A highlight of the day will be living historic figures being portrayed on the Courthouse lawn at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. There will be seven historical figures being portrayed, with each sharing their story and explaining their importance to Highland County’s development and legacy. These presentations are designed to be both educational and family-friendly, offering visitors of all ages a chance to connect with the people and moments that shaped our community.\nGuided tours of the historic Highland County Courthouse will be offered throughout the event, providing insight into the building’s architectural significance and its longstanding role as the seat of county government. Constructed in the late 19th century, the courthouse stands as a symbol of civic pride and leadership. Tickets for the tours are free but must be reserved online as space is limited.\nIn addition to activities in Hillsboro, special tours and events will take place throughout the day in the Village of Leesburg, the Village of Greenfield, and the Village of Lynchburg. Each community will showcase its unique history, local landmarks, and hometown pride, giving visitors the opportunity to explore all that Highland County has to offer.\nThe celebration will conclude with a special evening performance by the Hillsboro Military Band on the Courthouse lawn sponsored by the Highland County Historical Society. This beloved local tradition will provide a patriotic and inspiring close to a day filled with history, reflection, and community spirit.\nThis celebration is a collaborative effort made possible through the support of community partners, local volunteers, municipal leaders, and the America 250-Ohio Commission. Together, we are proud to showcase the authentic, locally sourced history that continues to shape our region.\nTo learn more about the event or Highland County’s participation in the America 250-Ohio initiative, visit www.VisitHighlandCounty.com.\n
