SUMMARY:Her Story, Our Story: Ohio Women who Shaped America
DESCRIPTION:This Women’s History Month, the Heritage Center has a new temporary exhibit in the lobby honoring remarkable women from Ohio, created in partnership with the Gammon House and the Springfield Chapter of Links, Inc. The exhibit is part of two landmark commemorations: America 250 celebrations recognizing Ohio’s role in our nation’s story, and a year-long tribute to Toni Morrison, the Ohio-born literary giant who became the first Black woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. The display shines a light on Black Ohio women who were trailblazers, with special focus on the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. Led by Lt. Colonel Charity Adams Earley, who later made her home in Dayton, this unit of the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps restored a vital lifeline between WWII soldiers and their families, a story depicted in the 2024 film The Six Triple Eight.\n
